Hand-Held Vision for the Blind News 1/28/2008 Remarkable advances in text-to-speech technology are allowing the blind to interact with the world in ways never thought possible. The National Federation of the Blind has announced their creation of a hand-held device which allows the user to scan text and have it spoken by a synthesized voice. The NFB believes this will entitle the vision-impaired to such freedom as being able to decipher between $20 and $10 bills. This useful software is being incorporated into the small convenience of a Nokia cell phone. read more
