Foreign Language Teachers Get Respect

The California State Board of Education recently announced a new initiative to make foreign language studies an integral part of high school education – putting the discipline on par with academic subjects such as math, science, English, and history. This new standard sets forth guidelines for what students should know at each grade level, and what they need to master before advancing. Foreign language teachers across the state appreciate this academic initiative, and for providing much needed validation to their work. Textbook publishers will also benefit from this new standardization since subject matter will be more specialized and consistent with state requirements, making it easier for teachers to plan their lessons.
