China Sensors Obama’s Inaugural Speech

Last week, China's notably conservative propaganda czars made an extraordinary effort towards openness by allowing live transmission of the Barrack Obama’s inaugural address into the nation's homes. However, this exercise in tolerance soon proved to be disastrous for the socialist country once Obama made mention of a certain problematic word – communism. As Obama began remarks on how "… earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions," the Chinese censors muted the interpreter before the end of the sentence." The Chinese network then switched quickly to an unprepared news anchor who in turn nervously passed the hot seat to a flustered analyst speaking on the troubles of the U.S. economy. The next morning, print publications followed suit with entire paragraphs omitted from the inaugural speech. Only the state-run China Daily newspaper published it in its entirety.
