Italians Dislike the “Weekend”

An influential cultural institute, the Dante Alighieri Society, has asked Italians to choose their least favorite and over-used foreign words; the response was unanimous, ‘il weekend.’ This fusion between Italian and English has come to be called “Anglitaliano.” Several people polled explained that it was senseless to use English when the Italian equivalent, "fine settimana," means exactly the same. Many call the change in language a product of globalization; others view the change as chic and popular.
