It is not uncommon to see immigrant communities in small parts of large cities, often referred to as ‘Chinatown’ or ‘Little Mexico’ for instance. These areas of town have often been havens for immigrants who have not fully assimilated into mainstream American society; but havens such as these are starting to appear throughout the country and not just in large metropolitan areas. Denver is the latest city to see a large growth of these ethnic enclaves; but the city is taking an active approach by offering these immigrants low cost citizenship courses. The effort is being supported by top level government agencies. Chief Alfonso Aguilar of the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Citizenship, is responsible for launching a new initiative to revive an Americanization movement for future generations of immigrants. The driving motivation for this admirable effort is to promote a society that is united – in purpose and commitment to American principles.
