Arabic Authors Get the Message

Spanish masterpiece Don Quixote has been translated into more languages than any other book in history, aside from the bible. For centuries, this acclaimed achievement was held by original works from the Arabic language. In the first millennium of recorded history, Arabic closely contended with Latin and Greek for exposure of creative and academic writings from around the world. However, in 2003, a UN initiated research program found that more books were being translated annually into Spanish than had been translated into Arabic throughout the entire 1,000 years preceding the report. The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage’s KALIMA initiative has undertaken a large publication project that will translate the most renowned mother books of philosophy, science, literature, and various areas of art into the Arabic language.
